Flexion Distraction Therapy

How Does Flexion Distraction Therapy Work?

Flexion Distraction Therapy is performed on a specialized table that bends as the doctor gently applies pressure to your lower back. As the table bends, the facet joints in your spine begin to separate and your spine begins to lengthen. As this occurs, a negative pressure change is created within the intervertebral discs, surrounding soft tissue and spinal joints. The reduction of pressure inside the disc allows a disc bulge or herniation to be pulled back into the disc. Rehydration of the disc and surrounding structures creates a physiological change which decreases pain levels and assists the body’s natural healing process. Flexion Distraction Therapy can be beneficial in treating conditions such as:

  • Lumbar Neuropathy

  • Sciatica

  • Low Back Pain

  • Pinched nerves

  • Failed Back Surgery

  • Leg Pain and Numbness

  • Spinal Stenosis

  • Facet Syndrome

How Long is a Flexion Distraction Therapy Session?

Flexion Distraction Therapy Sessions can range from 2-10 minutes, with the average session typically lasting 5 minutes. A trial course of 12 sessions is recommended in order to determine the effectiveness of Flexion Distraction Therapy, as well as to receive the maximum benefit from your treatments. In addition, for accelerated healing, Flexion Distraction Therapy can be used in conjunction with other therapies used in the office, as well as with your regular chiropractic adjustments.
